I promised Mel that I will blog about it. And I am finally here =) Some of you may pengsan, I know but this issue is very normal around the world.
I also needed some input from a mature Christian. I just got it a few days ago. I just hope she won't mind me putting it here. Some of you might know Yin, some of you might not. She's a friend from church. Quite old (sorry) and cool too for her age. I didn't know who else to asked. I wanted to ask Aunty Olivia but I wasn't too sure what she would think. So I asked Yin although she takes about a month to answer. =)
Okay, I know from the Bible that we're not suppose to be having sex before marriage and also sex outside of marriage and all that stuff. To read about it in the Bible, click here.
Yin suggested I read "Eros defiled" by John White. I have read a book on these stuff from another Christian book but I still can't remember the title after thinking about it for so long. But it talks about love and sex and marriage. Quite a thin book too. It talks about the difference between infatuation and love too. I'll have to borrow Yin's book too cause its from the 1970s. lol.
Okay rite. I know I don't want to have sex before marriage. I have promised God that I won't. I am just praying that I'll be able to keep that promise and that temptation won't lead me away. Which is why another point that Yin brought up is that I should date a Christian guy. A mature Christian guy. One that is serious about living it for the Lord, then it could be a good and pure relationship. That is I think very hard to find. Already there are lesser Christian men than women in the Church.
Dating a non-Christian has a whole lot more dangers of course in that he could very well lead you away from God e.g "Don't lah go to church tomorrow, the weather has been so good lately lets go for a picnic instead...." Sooner or later its not you bringing him to church but he leading you astray. And of course he could really keep harping on having sex and how thats ok to do cause everyone else does it... And of course the dating could get serious and you end up really seriously thinking of marrying the guy. The Bible is very clear on the fact that a Christian should not marry a non-Christian. 1Cor 7:39; 2Cor 6:14.
That whole paragraph is from Yin. I think if I don't have a mature Christian boyfriend I will go astray. Its already quite hard to start looking for a church and continuously attending and getting involved. I was quite lazy at first to go to church, but I forced myself because I know that if I don't I will fall far far away. The following is also from Yin:
A few things may need to be cleared up though... if u look at someone and think..."He is sooooo cute/ handsome. Thats not a sin. But if you end up going further and having all sorts of thoughts about what you could do with him... well thats going beyond the temptation and getting into sin.
And for those who think that they cannot fight the temptation but must sin... well thats not true - 1Cor 10:13.
As to kissing.... well with young people hormones are normally raging and a kiss could very well lead to petting, which if u read Eros Defiled is akin to sex.
Ms Em its not an easy thing to remain pure for God, it really sounds so out of place in the world today BUT God gives us these commands for a very good reason, all for our benefit. A lot of young Christian couples that i know have married very young because it was so hard to keep their hormones in check but i have also seen that many of the marriages do not work because a lot of the time what they saw as 'true love' in the end turned out to be 'true lust'. They did not take the time to really get to know the person, whether you really are right for each other, is the person really who God has given u. Instead the idea of sex blinded them.
Ok thats the end of what Yin thinks. But its mostly what I think too. So, I know it really isn't my view on sex but rather God's view. I trust God though.
The reason I have written a post on this subject is because around me people have girlfriends and boyfriends and I was just wondering what is right and what is not right. Now I know, thanks to Yin who cleared stuff up. Thank you very much.
Keep praying!
